About the Author

Jayne Barnard wrote her first mystery story in third grade and has never lost her curiosity about whatever might be happening right around the corner. That curiosity stood her in good stead during the writing of "When the Bow Breaks," a novel manuscript that was a finalist for the 2011 Unhanged Arthur Award and the Highly Commended finalist for the 2013 Debut Dagger.

In "When the Bow Breaks," Dominic, a French orphan, is pursued by Serbian war criminals all the way to Vancouver, BC, where a burnt-out RCMP officer, a nanny, and a homeless woman must band together if they hope to keep him safe. An insurance investigator, on the trail of a stolen Stradivarius cello, finds his case tangled with Dominic's pursuers, and must cash in favours from old Interpol buddies in his efforts to track the Serbs and uncover their wealthy Canadian protector.

RCMP Corporal Lacey McCrae, the lead sleuth in "When the Bow Breaks," made a previous appearance in the short story  Bow Tide, part of "Dead in the Water," a 2006 anthology from Rendezvous Press, and online at  Kings River Life in December 2013

Jayne's short fiction has appeared in print for more than twenty years. She won a Saskatchewan Writers Guild award for Princess Alex and the Dragon Deal, the Bony Pete for Each Canadian Son, and a Calgary Writers Association award for The Toothpick Bridge. Other works were short-listed for the Great Canadian Story and long-listed for the Unhanged Arthur (Arthur Ellis Award for Best Unpublished Canadian Crime Novel).

Jayne lives in Calgary, Alberta, in the angle between the Bow and Elbow Rivers, in a solar-powered urban cottage with computers, cats, and many more books than either. When not writing, she may often be found in Steampunk gear or Edwardian costume, with others of her tribe. A longtime board member and blogger for Mystery Writers Ink,and past Prairie Regional Vice-President for Crime Writers of Canada , she currently serves as coordinator for Calgary Crime Writers and Facebook guru for the Crime Writers of Calgary Prairie Region. .
